Celebrity Drive met up with the ingenious freak of nature talented music producer, Werner Beukes who were able to share his views and latest tongue in the cheek "kragsous" song with us, to celebrate the joy of having a "higher energy" partner in Averge Technologies to reduce the frustrations created by Load shedding! In similar fashion did Suzuki do the same to lighten the burden for "more space" with their latest addition to the ultra popular 3 door Jimny, which enjoyed a "cult like" status amongst South Africans.

History: From This first Generation , the LJ10 in the early seventies,  to the  4th Gen 2018 Model that now includes the  36cm extended  5 door version, ( from 3625 to 3985). No wonder that the past 50 odd years of development have created such an iconic, no fuss, no thrill, micro 4x4. The Jimny is revered as a “beast”  when it comes to its off-road  credentials,  unmistakably the most desired item due to the obvious reasons, being affordability and exceptional resale value created by the high demand. At a recent event Suzuki SA mentioned that, 20322 new units found owners the past 15 years in South Africa

Will the introduction of the 5-door variant bolster the already coveted status of this iconic model? We firmly believe it will, as it caters to those who seek additional space without compromising on the Jimny's charm. However, Suzuki missed a significant opportunity to implement long-awaited upgrades since 2018 with the launch of the 5-door variant. Over the past six years, loyal Suzuki enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting refinements that could have pre-empted potential competition, such as Toyota's rumoured "mini Land Cruiser," which threatens to overshadow the Jimny.

Anticipated improvements, supposedly slated for the forthcoming facelift model named the "Jimny Sierra" expected in 2025, are sorely needed. Current offerings lack essential comfort and technology features, including keyless start, enhanced safety systems, ergonomic considerations such as footrests and elbow rests, upgraded audio systems, improved connectivity, and rear seat air vents. Even basic conveniences like easy-clean rubber mats are conspicuously absent. Additionally, the limited door storage and lack of adequate cup holders further highlight these deficiencies. Moreover, our real-world fuel economy testing yielded a disappointing figure of 7.8 L/100km, falling short of the advertised 6.3 L/100km, even when adhering strictly to speed limits. With talks of a hybrid model on the horizon, we fervently hope it surpasses the underwhelming performance of the Grand Vitara Hybrid, a model that appears precarious at its current price point.

Despite these shortcomings, the Jimny's unparalleled off-road prowess commands respect, particularly among seasoned 4x4 enthusiasts who can attest to its capabilities. Now, with the introduction of the 5-door variant, accommodating up to three additional passengers while still retaining up to 332 liters of boot space, the Jimny offers a compelling blend of versatility and adventure.

To truly appreciate the Jimny's legendary capabilities, engage with hardcore off-road aficionados who have firsthand experience with its extraordinary feats. For those seeking both off-road capabilities and practicality, the Jimny presents an enticing proposition. Book a test drive today to experience the Jimny's unrivalled spirit for yourself.

Celebrity Drive want to thank Suzuki SA for giving us the opportunity to "celebrate the all new 5 Door Jimny with the talented Musicians and we trust that ESKOM will soon deliver the long abated power to support our beautiful country and all its people!
